Huge shoutout to the Phoenix Marching Band. They recently competed at the Bands of America Regional Championships in St. George, alongside 30 bands from across the Western U.S. and made it to the finals! Their boxing-themed show, "The Contender", was performed flawlessly, and they represented us with pride. We couldn’t be prouder of their hard work and dedication. Way to go, Phoenix! #GoPhoenix #MarchingBandExcellence #BandsOfAmerica #DavisSchoolDistrict #FarmingtonPhoenix

Snow Horse Elementary and Sunburst Elementary have earned the prestigious Apple Distinguished School designation for the second time, for the 2024-2027 period. This accomplishment places both schools among an exclusive group of only 889 schools across 37 countries worldwide to hold the title. Only three schools in Utah have earned this honor and all three schools are part of Davis School District. The award is given to schools that demonstrate excellence in innovation, leadership and educational effectiveness through the integration of technology into the learning environment. Schools must show how they are using Apple products and resources to foster creativity, enhance student engagement and prepare students for success in a rapidly evolving world. “The award is not based solely on how technology is utilized,” said Sunburst Elementary Principal Rachel Alberts. “A school must have a culture that embraces risk-taking, equitable access and engaging learning opportunities. This would not be possible without our highly skilled and dedicated teachers.” Snow Horse Elementary Principal Jenne Talbot said, “Earning the Apple Distinguished School designation reflects the dedication, innovation, and teamwork of our entire community. This award highlights not only our commitment to integrating technology into learning but also the hard work our staff and students have put into building a forward-thinking environment where every child can thrive.” The district is incredibly proud of the dedication of the staff, students and communities at Snow Horse Elementary and Sunburst Elementary. Earning the Apple Distinguished School designation for 2024-2027 is a testament to their commitment, effort and dedication to educational excellence.

South Davis Junior High’s food drive was a huge success. The school’s Student Body Officers organized a month-long drive to benefit the Bountiful Food Pantry. The class that collected the most food won the grand prize—early release to attend the Fall Festival and free pizza. Miss Naegle’s 8th grade U.S. History class took first place. The festival featured games, trivia, a prize wheel, a photo booth and plenty of pizza and donuts. #SDJH #FoodDrive #FallFestival #SBO #CommunitySupport

Congratulations to Jessica Holtry, an inspiring educator from Northridge High School, who has been recognized as KUTV 2 News' Teacher of the Month. This award not only celebrates her incredible contributions to the Davis School District but also comes with a well-deserved cash prize. Holtry has dedicated the past 11 years of her career to Northridge High, where she teaches AP Chemistry, AP Environmental Science, Concurrent Enrollment Chem 1010, General Chemistry, and a Peer Leadership class. Her influence extends far beyond the classroom, as she nurtures both academic growth and personal development in her students. Holtry reflects on the joy of watching her students grow: “The answer always comes back to the joy of watching students grow and develop," Holtry said. "There’s something incredibly fulfilling about seeing them discover their potential and take steps to embrace it more fully. It’s a privilege to foster curiosity and a love for learning, not just for them, but for myself as well—I learn alongside my students every day.” Her commitment to education stems from a belief in its transformative power. For Holtry, teaching isn’t just a job; it’s a mission to give back to her community and contribute to something greater. Holtry draws her inspiration from the resilience and growth she witnesses in her students: “It is truly inspiring to be part of someone’s life journey during what is, for many, a critical and formative time. As a teacher, I have the privilege of creating opportunities and broadening horizons for my students.” Whether it's helping a student complete credit recovery, navigate personal challenges, or overcome setbacks, Holtry finds fulfillment in guiding students through life’s milestones.

Students guiding students. Two buses packed with Syracuse Junior High seventh graders recently arrived at the Catalyst Center. While they weren’t there to sample the world-class cuisine at the café, they were there to explore the exciting course options available to them. The Catalyst Center takes pride in preparing students for the “real world” by allowing them to manage their own projects. Instead of traditional teacher-led instruction, current Catalyst students gave the junior high visitors a hands-on introduction to potential career paths. Seventh graders had the chance to explore fields like broadcasting, audio engineering, graphic design, game development, business, construction and cybersecurity. Each CCA student selected two career fields that piqued their interest and attended classes to see if they could envision themselves in those roles. “A lot of kids graduate high school with the expectation to go to college, and that’s not always what they want to do,” Student Success Specialist Brooke Henderson said. “We want to expose kids in junior high to different options so they can know what’s out there.” The Catalyst Center is now enrolling for the Spring 2025 semester. Visit their website for more details!

Farmington Elementary School marked a milestone this year, celebrating 50 years of educating students in the community. To honor this special occasion, the school hosted a celebration on Nov. 14, featuring a program and open house. The evening began with a reception, exclusively for former faculty and staff members to reconnect and reminisce about their time at the school. Following the reception, the public was invited to join in the festivities. Guests had the opportunity to walk through the school's history, exploring five decades of photos, stories and memories. The open house also included games, refreshments and displays showcasing the school’s impact on the community over the years. “We were thrilled to celebrate 50 years of learning, growth and community at Farmington Elementary,” said Principal Sandra Carmony. “This was a wonderful opportunity for past and present students, families and staff to come together and honor the school’s shared history.”

Centerville and Doxey Elementary held a heartfelt assembly with students singing for veterans. Knowlton Elementary hosted a veterans' breakfast and parade. Happy Veterans Day. Taylor Elementary Principal Dr. Darryl Denhalter takes pride in his schools’ support of military-connected students and their families. “We take a great effort as a Purple Star school to honor and help our students, so they feel like they belong. Belonging is what we are all about,” Denhalter said. For the last three years the school has invited active duty and military veterans with ties to school for a patriotic sing along with the students. Music instructor Christa Johnson selects songs that teach respect and honor of our country. At the end of the assembly, the service men and women walked a trail lined with symbols of the ever-changing American flag. “It does the country a lot of good if we can extend kindness, friendship and fellowship instead of looking for things that divide us,” Airforce Chaplain Ammon Larson said. Principal Denhalter hopes to continue this tradition and show his community how dedicated Taylor Elementary is to building connections and a sense of belonging for all.
