Jamie Mathews, an ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) instructor at Davis Adult Education, has spent over two decades helping adult learners achieve their goals. Since starting her teaching career in 2001, Jamie has developed a deep appreciation for both her students and the experiences they bring into her classroom. “I love my job and seeing the progress of students as they achieve their goals,” she shares. Her commitment to her students shines through in every lesson, creating a supportive and encouraging environment for all.
Outside the classroom, Jamie’s love for adventure fuels her personal life. Whether she's biking, hiking, swimming, or running, she thrives on staying active and embracing the great outdoors. In addition to her passion for adventure, Jamie is also a talented painter who enjoys experimenting with various artistic mediums.
Jamie’s life is filled with milestones, not only in her career but also in her family. She and her husband, to whom she's been married for seven years, are raising three children who have had a remarkable year of achievements. Her daughter recently married, adding a new member to the family, her second-oldest son is currently serving a mission in Mexico, and her youngest son earned his Eagle Scout rank and was accepted into the prestigious Laytones Choir at Layton High School. “It has been fun to raise these independent kids and see them accomplish their goals,” Jamie remarks proudly.
A Utah native, Jamie grew up in the Murray and Cottonwood Heights areas before moving to Layton in 2001. She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Utah the same year and later pursued a master’s degree from Western Governors University in 2015. Now, with years of teaching experience and a thriving family life, Jamie continues to inspire her students at Davis Adult Education, showing that learning and growth are lifelong journeys.
From her adventurous spirit to her dedication to education, Jamie Mathews exemplifies the passion and energy that make Davis Adult Education a special place for learners from all walks of life.
Thanks for your hard work and dedication to your students Jamie!
