Rovi Hidalgo

This Filipino American Heritage Month, Davis School District is proud to highlight the work and story of Rovi Hidalgo, a school psychologist who has served in the district since 2019. For Hidalgo, the most rewarding part of the job is the people.

“There are so many things that I love about my job, but one of my favorite things is building connections with students, families and staff,” Hidalgo said. “My job would be impossible without a team and I am thankful to work with so many amazing individuals every day.”

The foundation of Hidalgo’s journey was set by her parents. Both immigrated from the Philippines in search of opportunity, working hard to support extended family abroad while building a new life in the United States.

“My parents are the reason why I am where I am today,” Hidalgo said. “If it was not for their hard work and sacrifices, I would not have been able to find my dream job and go to graduate school.”

That example of resilience shapes how Hidalgo approaches students—helping them see beyond barriers and recognize their own strength.

“It is the resiliency of the Filipino heart that influences my approach,” Hidalgo said. “I try to instill to my students that hardships do not define us — it is what we do that matters, where we do not have to be limited or defined by barriers.”

In every aspect of her role, Hidalgo hopes to create safe, supportive spaces where students and families feel empowered.

“Whether it's through special education evaluations or counseling with me, I hope that students and families feel safe enough to understand and advocate for their needs as a result,” Hidalgo said. “I hope to give them the tools to continue to do so as they move through life.”

To those who look to her as a role model, Hidalgo offers this encouragement:

“It is up to us to open our minds, seek and accept support, and make changes,” she said.
